Fred Rogers and the Art of Getting What You Want
I just watched this clip with Fred Rogers testifying at a senate hearing in 1969. This really brought back memories of watching "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood" when I was a kid. I found the bits with the puppets in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe to be magical. I drew little maps of where everything was located and who lived where.
As an adult, it was great to see Mr Rogers go into a situation that's so similar to what we (or maybe it's just me) experience at work these days. But instead of being combative, his quiet passion won over the senate committee. This is really a great example of how to get what you want without being negative, aggressive, or loud. If only all our disagreements could be solved this way.
